The Chief Medical Officer, Hospital at Home (HaH) provides physician executive leadership for Atlantic Health's Hospital at Home program. This role is responsible for clinical strategy, care model design, physician and APP leadership, quality oversight, and the advancement of evidence-based acute care delivery in the home setting.
Reporting to the Vice President, Hospital-Based Medicine, the Chief Medical Officer will partner closely with the Executive Director, HaH Clinical Care and Operations, to develop and execute a nationally leading care model focused on clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience, and sustainable growth. This physician executive will lead implementation, scaling, and continuous optimization of acute hospital-level care delivered in the home setting.
The Chief Medical Officer oversees clinical standards, treatment protocols, quality and safety programs, and physician engagement across the HaH organization. This leader will serve as a national subject matter expert in home-based acute care delivery, driving innovation and clinical excellence across the organization. The role will help expand access to high-quality, cost-effective acute care, improve patient outcomes, optimize hospital capacity, and advance enterprise strategic goals.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
HaH Organization and Clinical Leadership
1. Strategy and Vision
* Develop and advance a nationally recognized clinical model for Hospital at Home care delivery that supports clinical quality, patient experience, and growth.
* Partner with HaH leadership to develop and execute the long-term clinical vision and strategic direction for acute care at home.
* Identify opportunities for clinical program growth, service expansion, and innovation in home-based acute care delivery.
* Promote evidence-based practices and clinical excellence across the HaH organization.
2. Program Design, Build, and Implementation
* Develop patient eligibility criteria and treatment protocols for all in-scope patient populations.
* Design scalable clinical care pathways and physician practice models supporting program growth and expansion.
* Lead development of care delivery models incorporating virtual care, remote monitoring, and home-based clinical services.
* Establish clinical quality metrics and outcome measures to monitor safety, utilization, and patient experience.
* Lead physician engagement and clinical adoption efforts supporting HaH implementation and expansion across the enterprise.
* Optimize processes to scale clinical care delivery capabilities from initial patient populations to patients with increasingly complex conditions.
3. Clinical and Operational Leadership
* Provide physician leadership and clinical oversight for acute hospital-level care delivered in the home setting.
* Provide clinical oversight for HaH physicians, APPs, and clinical care teams supporting home-based acute care delivery.
4. Performance and Accountability
* Create and manage a rigorous quality measurement and improvement program to accompany the launch of Atlantic Health's HaH organization.
* Monitor program performance against clinical, operational, financial, and patient experience goals.
* Develop solutions around program needs and pain points, including those of patients, their caregivers, and the clinical workforce.
* Evaluate clinical technologies and care delivery capabilities to support quality improvement and clinical scalability.
* Communicate program outcomes and strategic progress to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
5. Stakeholder Engagement
* Lead change management efforts to build support for HaH as a viable - and preferred - option for acute care treatment.
* Work with stakeholders across the organization to identify, evaluate and implement best practices for enhancing and improving HaH clinical operations and outcomes.
* Engage with patients, clinicians, and internal stakeholders and create feedback loops, gather data, and continuously test and validate home-based acute care models.
Partnership with extended HaH Leadership
* Serve as a strategic thought partner to HaH and enterprise leadership in advancing Hospital at Home services across Atlantic Health.
* Represent Atlantic Health internally and externally as a physician leader in Hospital at Home clinical innovation and best practices.
* Partner with operational and digital leaders to support technology-enabled care delivery models.
* Promote patient-centered care and caregiver engagement throughout the HaH experience.
$475k - $650k base salary only.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Medical Degree (MD or DO)
* Minimum 7-10 years of clinical experience
* Minimum 3-5 years of leadership experience
* Active or eligible medical license in New Jersey
* Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
* Hospitalist or inpatient medicine background
* Experience launching or leading clinical programs or service lines
* Experience with cross-functional teams and projects
* Demonstrated experience leading transformational change initiatives - a change agent
