The Second largest of Memorial Sloan Ketterings clinical departments, the Department of Surgery encompasses experts in various surgical specialties.

We are recruiting for an Assistant Manager . In this role, you will report to an Associate Director and have oversight for large and complex physician practices and offices. You will work collaboratively with physicians to implement the vision of the Service Chief and carry out the daily operations of academic practices. The Assistant Manager will also be responsible for the management of front line administrative staff and ensure the most professional, efficient and appropriate management of academic practices in the department. The Assistant Manager will encourage staff development, continuous improvement, and the highest quality service for our patients.

Other responsibilities include:

• Recruiting, orientation, training, disciplinary action and staff evaluation.
• Prioritization of workflows to meet the needs of the department and ensure efficient and financially sound operations.
• Managing allocation and use of resources, partnering with clinical administrative units (such as Ambulatory Care and Patient Financial Services) to execute objective and performance improvement of MD practices and enhancing the patient experience.
• Actively identifying, analyzing and recommending improvements to current processes and fostering innovation.
• Analyzing and communicating information and data necessary for fulfilling department needs and overseeing physician practice activity; making recommendations regarding departmental and practice operations based on analysis of information.
• Monitoring practice activity metrics and conducting regular reporting.
• Performing day to day financial tasks (such as travel reimbursement), and abiding by existing policies and procedures.

You have:

• Bachelors degree plus 2-4 years of relevant experience.
• In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, applicants with relevant experience will be considered.
• Non-MSK Employees: Supervisory experience (15-25 direct reports or more) strongly preferred.
• MSK Employees: At least one year in a Team Lead/equivalent or higher role strongly preferred.
• Strong communication, both written and verbal.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
