Maine Veterans’ Homes is a non-profit, award-winning senior services healthcare provider, offering unparalleled care and comfort to approximately 600 of Maine’s veterans, their spouses, and Gold Star parents in our six homes throughout the state. Created by the Maine Legislature in 1977 to provide long-term care services to Maine’s Veterans and eligible family members, we continue today to operate as an independent, nonprofit organization. We opened our first home in Augusta in 1983. Since then, we have established locations in Caribou, Scarborough, South Paris, Bangor and Machias.
We Are Independent of the VA
MVH is a separate, nonprofit organization from the Department of Veterans Affairs. We work closely with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to access federal funding for Veterans’ benefits and care. We rely on the generous donations of individuals and organizations to help enhance the quality of life for residents by providing funds for activities, equipment, and facility projects.
Our highly skilled staff are specially trained to provide the physical, emotional, and mental support and care Veterans need.
Our success can be directly attributed to our staff’s unwavering commitment to our Vision and Core Values in caring for Maine’s Veterans. Each of our six homes has been recognized by the industry’s leading healthcare organizations, placing MVH in the top five percent in quality measures for nursing homes across the nation.
At Maine Veterans’ Homes, we believe it is a privilege and our responsibility to provide care and support for those who honorably served our country, as well as for their families. Our mission, “Caring for those who served,” is at the forefront of all that we do as a Provider of Choice, Employer of Choice, and Veteran Advocate.
