The Section Chief of Imaging, Diagnostics Service is a non-bargaining unit position reporting to the Chief of Diagnostics Service. The candidate is responsible for supervision and oversight of administrative operations and physicians within the Imaging Service.
Administrative Functions (40%)
Leadership: Provide leadership, management, and oversight of providers and/or programs that support the Chief of Diagnostics.
Collaborate in the development and maintenance of written policies and procedures defining operational requirements for Diagnostics Service.
Routinely participate in regularly scheduled Diagnostics Service management meetings.
Assure that the necessary aspects of orientation are covered at the service level for all Radiology physicians, including information security, CPRS training, and virtual related training and documentation.
Monitor Diagnostics Service performance and assess adherence to VA standards, assure quality and effectiveness of care, and meet VA performance measures.
Conduct, monitor, and maintain OPPEs and FPPEs for radiologists
Develop and monitor performance/outcome metrics and conduct analysis of existing Diagnostic programs and services.
Make recommendations to the Chief of Diagnostics for program s strategic direction, productivity, improved process performance, and capital utilization.
Ensure the Diagnostics programs are compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements.
Respond to patient inquiries that arise from daily practice, through the Patient Advocate, through the front office, and by Congressional action. Outstanding customer service is expected.
Evaluate and determine a course of action which will result in the most favorable patient and/or organizational outcome.
Assume full responsibility for working with leadership to prioritize, implement, onboard, manage operations, and terminate Radiology operations when/as appropriate. This includes clinic cancelations.
Adapt to changing circumstances while displaying a high degree of interpersonal skill.
Other duties as required or assigned.
Clinical Responsibilities (60%)
This position requires the employee to provide direct outpatient care as a member of an interprofessional Radiology team.
Major Duties:
Interpret General Radiology examinations (plain film) as provided.
Perform fluoroscopic examinations (contrast and non-contrast) with the assistance of a licensed Technologist.
Assist providers in the performance of specialized examinations when requested.
Perform some IR procedures.
Interpret CT examinations of the head, neck, body, and some extremities.
Interpret Ultrasound examinations of the internal organs, thyroid, scrotum,
Interpret Duplex Carotid studies as provided by Doppler Ultrasound examinations.
Interpret routine Nuclear Medicine studies such as Bone Scan, HIDA, MUGA, Thyroid.
Interpret SPECT Myocardial examinations, including stress tests.
Participate in Quality Management activities such as film quality, clerical checks, peer review and other activities as required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Basic Qualifications and Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met the requirements for certification, (a copy of ECFMG certificate must be provided).
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Experience: Board Certified or eligible in Radiology
Preferred Experience: 5 years supervisory experience in an outpatient radiology setting.
