Your Role:
Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC)'s Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital [VTTH] is seeking to hire a Lab Director, whom will have responsibility for managing the performance of laboratory procedures for all age groups from neonate through geriatric, according to established hospital and department policies and procedures. The Lab Director is responsible for managing financial, employee, and interdepartmental relations.
The VTTH Lab Director will be instrumental in ensuring a successful deployment of the VUMC Diagnostic Laboratories Transformation Project implementation strategy in VTTH by adequately supporting VUMC's Regional Facility Employee Development Program in tandem with our main campus lab expansion, to include relocation to MetroCenter, in Nashville, Tennessee. Additional responsibilities include taking ownership to ensure VTHH remains in good standing with all regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, etc.), Essential duties include developing, directing, implementing, and measuring all diagnostic laboratory operations to ensure VTTH maintains Vanderbilt's Standard of Patient Care, including the preparation and management of operating and capital expenditures budgets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Department directors are responsible, either personally or through delegation for:
* Integrating laboratory service into the organization's primary functions
* Coordinating and integrating the laboratory with all hospital departments to provide quality care
* Developing and implementing policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of the services
* Provide a sufficient number of qualified and competent staff to perform testing and laboratory duties
* Continuously assessing and improving the performance of services provided
* Maintaining quality control and quality assurance programs as appropriate
* Orienting and providing in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the department
* Adapt laboratory floor plan and resources to meet needs of hospital and providers
* Participating in the selection of resources needed for laboratory and hospital to meet goals

* Education coordinator
* Serve on hospital committees to include: Critical Care Committee, Infection control,
* Performance Improvement, Regulatory Readiness, Emergency Preparedness, Employee Engagement, Compliance committee, Antibiotic Stewardship, Transfusion Services Committee, as needed Surgical, Medical, OB/Peds service committees
* Coordination of Blood Assurance Blood Drives
* Participation in the Community cares initiative
* Actively market Laboratory Services to physicians and community
* Participation in Community activities
* Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired concerning personal, financial, medical and employment status of patients and their families
* Develops and implements plans, policies and procedures regarding staffing, department operations, and purchasing of Laboratory supplies and equipment
* Develops and manages department operation and capital budgets
* Follows accepted safety practices
* Maintains a working knowledge of the departmental charge master; ensures accuracy of charge master and association with imaging procedures in order to appropriately charge for services
* Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate computer software programs & systems (HIS, LIS, Network.) and is able to appropriately use the system(s)
* Gathers data and participates in the department's quality assurance and improvement plan to achieve a defined level of quality and appropriateness of patient care
* Provides and maintains necessary department reports and files i.e. repeat rates
* Marketing for Laboratory Services
* Assumes responsibility for preparing and maintaining staffing guidelines
* Evaluates staff, provides counsel, monitors performance, provides guidance and constructively influences staff morale * Prepares agenda and conducts monthly Laboratory meetings
* Establishes achievable personnel advancement based upon goal achievements * Initiates Purchase Orders and Capital Expenditure Requisitions with justifications for approval by Administration
* Manages departmental supplies, equipment maintenance and payroll expenses
* Monitors the status of equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and equipment malfunction
* Participates on interdisciplinary performance improvement teams, committees and special projects
* Applies the profession's code of ethics in all aspects of practice
* Maintains the ability to perform procedures in the discipline for which they are registered to include assessment of patient needs
