The Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Primary Care Institute is seeking a full-time, board-certified physician to lead the overall administration and operations of all health care provided within the Allegheny County Jail Health Care Services, including medical and psychiatric care. In this 70% administrative/30% clinical position, the physician leader will also serve as liaison to the AHN Primary Care Institute leadership and to other constituents within and outside the facility. The Medical Director/Chief of Clinical Services will report directly to the Allegheny County Bureau of Corrections Health Services Administrator and to the AHN Primary Care Institute Chair. If you do not qualify for the Medical Director role, we are also seeking Primary Care Physicians and Psychiatrists as well. 

The incumbent candidate must balance the interests of safety and security of the facility, patients, and the community at large; be cognizant of court and legal precedent, medical board requirements, standards of care, services fulfilled by public funding, and current research; and provide administrative direction in healthcare policy and procedure.

Job Duties Include:

• Supervising and developing the medical team of physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners at the Allegheny County Bureau of Corrections to ensure evidenced-based care in accordance with correctional medicine standards.
• Leading the interdisciplinary clinical team to incorporate a comprehensive and holistic wellness approach to patients including physical health, behavioral health, and public health, for this underserved and vulnerable population.
• Utilizing a working knowledge and awareness of medication-assisted treatments for substance use disorders, harm reduction approaches, psychiatric conditions, and other chronic health conditions.
• Developing and supervising quality improvement processes for clinical care.

Qualifications:

• Board certification; family medicine, internal medicine or FM/psychiatry or IM/psychiatry preferred.
• Corrections medicine experience.
• CCHP certification by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care preferred, or willingness to achieve certification.
• Administrative experience in health care settings.
