University of Massachusetts TH Chan School of Medicine seeks a distinguished, dynamic, and collaborative leader with a strong clinical and academic foundation to serve as the Chief of the Division of Health Systems Science. The Chief will be responsible for the growth and advancement of research, faculty recruitment and development, mentorship of trainees including medical students, residents, fellows, scholarly activity, and teaching excellence for the Division. The Chief will lead the Division in becoming a nationally recognized research program, advancing scholarly activities with the goal of being a top tier research division.
The Division of Health Systems Science at UMass Chan’s Department of Medicine advances research, education, and practice in how healthcare is delivered by professionals and experienced by patients. They define Health Systems Science broadly, to include the areas of quality, safety, the structures and processes of health care delivery, informatics, high-value care and evidence-based practice, professionalism, ethics, interprofessional care, leadership, and systems thinking. The Division recognizes the importance of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s “Quadruple Aim,” which includes improvement in population health, reducing costs of care, enhancing patient experience, and promoting provider wellness.
They are the home for faculty with expertise in an expansive set of competencies including industrial and human factors engineering, mixed methods evaluation, predictive analytics, clinical informatics, safety science, implementation science, and quality improvement methodology to address real-world clinical and health care delivery challenges. The Division faculty contributes to health systems science education and training at the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education levels. The Chief will support UMass Chan in its goal of preparing its peerless “System Citizens.”
The successful candidate will be an outstanding academic leader with demonstrated ability to set a vision and effectively inspire, manage, and mentor. UMass Chan Medical School and the Department of Medicine seeks an individual who has a passion for promoting outstanding clinical care, develop new programs of research, and the leadership skills needed to engage faculty. Prior experience with funded research programs in clinical or health systems science, strong credentials from institutions of high repute, appropriate board certification, and a distinguished record of accomplishments across all relevant mission areas is required. The ability to demonstrate leadership skills in a collaborative environment with multiple partners and stakeholders is paramount.
