The West Texas VA Health Care System Ambulatory Care Service is currently seeking a Physician (Pain Management) to provide the chronic pain management needs of the Veterans and obtains referrals from the Primary Care Providers and Specialty Services. A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be authorized for a highly qualified candidate. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7402(d) and 7407(d). Physical Requirements: See outlined below. ["The Pain Management Physician is responsible for all functions which fall under the scope of care of a Pain Management Provider. These include predominantly clinical and administrative management, either directly or through delegated authority of the following: Initial patient evaluation Management of acute and chronic medical conditions in an outpatient setting: Follow-up care post treatment Consultation with other services as needed Optimizing patient safety and quality Serving on the Interdisciplinary Pain Care Committee representing PACT. The physician functions as a Pain and Opioid Safety subject matter expert (SME) during PACT case presentationsand staff meetings Assists in compiling VISN, facility, site and community pain resources that can assist PACT pain care management. Works closely with Primary Care, pain specialty and facility leadership to facilitate roadmapimplementation. Incumbent is an enthusiastic leader/champion who helps guide pain roadmap implementation for the primary care teams. Serves as a liaison to PACT for information around national initiatives and tools (Stepped Care for Opioid Use Disorder Train the Trainer [SCOUTT] initiative, CARA mandates, opioid safety, facility pain teams). Develops meaningful relationships with many of the leaders and points of contact (POCs) of these collaborating resources to develop a shared mission and common goals that guide appropriate staffing and capacity targets. Advocates for proper pain management and encourage each PACT in their facility to advance in theirindividual journey to optimize Whole Health oriented pain care for each Veteran. Works in conjunction with Primary Care and Pain Specialty leadership, participating in the review andmodification of policies and procedures that impact pain management. Modification of care coordination agreements Implementation of national and local initiative Recognition and proper utilization of consultative services Familiar with and employs diagnostic and therapeutic treatment plans consistent with current standardsof care/ evidence-based practice Provides direct patient care Responsible for providing services in an accurate, compassionate, high-quality, cost effective manner within budget allocation. Participates in a forum in which staff identify, communicate, and resolve issues related to MedicalService, Medical Center ancillary and support operations and VISN-wide mandates. Knowledge, ability, and willingness to use current automated technology for Health InformationManagement Sections (HIMS), patient data tracking, patient orders, etc. Participates in the education and training of medical students and residents. Participates in Medical Service strategic planning, as requested. Participates in local administrative, management, quality assurance, strategic planning and otherassignments, meetings, or committees, as requested. Participates in regular peer review activities. Must be alert to patient's condition and disorders. Reactions on the part of the patient requireimmediate attention so harm does not come to the patient. Maintains patient records and files. Follows HIPAA guidelines regarding patient information. Ensures timely completion of daily clinic notes with accurate documentation and coding of service rendered. Follows established safety practices and reports to Chief as promptly as possible to unsafe conditions,unsafe practices or any occupational illness or injury sustained. Adheres to all safety and health standards, regulations, and work practices. Uses proper protective equipment as required.
