Associate Director, Division of Infectious Diseases

This is a tenure-track faculty position within the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, at the Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN. The incumbent will fill the newly created position of Associate Director, Division of Infectious Diseases with a focus on laboratory science. The successful candidate will function as a laboratory-based investigator and will assist the new Director of the ID Division, Dr. Samir Gupta, in providing mentorship to early and mid-career faculty and in assisting the growth of the division’s research portfolio. University and community service will be expected as appropriate. In addition, if a physician, the incumbent could provide clinical care for patients with infectious diseases at IU approved locations and will teach medical students, residents and fellows within the context of their clinical practice. Opportunities for didactic teaching and participation in other educational activities in the division may also be available.

The Division of Infectious Diseases at IU includes 36 faculty, four Advanced Practice Providers, and four to six Fellows. The new Chair of the Department of Medicine, Dr. David Aronoff, is a member of the ID division. The division's faculty lead cutting-edge research programs in HIV, global health, infection control and prevention, malaria, sexually transmitted infections, reproductive health, and immunology. The School’s and Department’s NIH rankings have steadily improved over the last five years with over 100% increase in federal funding over this period. The ID division has over 1300 sq ft of renovated laboratory space for new investigators.

The ID Division actively collaborates with multiple other departments, including Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Microbiology & Immunology, and Biostatistics. In addition, our investigators have close partnerships and are supported by the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), a statewide partnership between the IU School of Medicine, IU Bloomington, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame.

The successful candidate will meet the requirements of being a tenured Associate or Full Professor with a record of successful scholarship and ongoing external funding.

Research time will be devoted to chosen candidate’s area of interest within infectious diseases. Clinical responsibilities, if applicable, will include seeing patients with infectious diseases in the outpatient clinic and inpatient units at IU approved locations. An equitable role in the teaching activities of the Infectious Diseases Division will be expected along with attendance at clinical conferences, fellowship curriculum conferences, and precepting fellows in outpatient clinics.

Qualified candidates will possess an MD, PhD, or equivalent as well as research service and teaching accomplishments consistent with a tenured faculty appointment. Completion of an accredited fellowship training program in infectious diseases is required for all physician candidates.

The ideal candidate will have a history of collaborative, impactful research and extramural funding and academic experience appropriate for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, and eligibility for licensure and practice in the State of Indiana, if MD.
