About Hospital for Special Surgery
This is an exciting time for Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) as it is experiencing tremendous growth as an organization in terms of its physical size and shape, as well as its expanding knowledge and expertise, innovation and research in the fields of orthopedics, rheumatology and their related disciplines. It will achieve focused scale in musculoskeletal health by extending its global influence through geographic expansion, as well as entrance into new areas of musculoskeletal health to reach broader populations. HSS has a total of 205 beds, 51 operating rooms, and performs over 35,000 surgeries per year. Its care delivery system consists of its main campus on the upper east side of Manhattan as well as locations throughout New York, Connecticut, Florida and New Jersey. It is an affiliate of Weill Medical College of Cornell University. HSS has leading market shares throughout the New York City Tri-State Area, and people from all 50 U.S. states and 89 countries receive care at HSS. It plans to continue to grow this care delivery system through the continued expansion of sites beyond the main campus. HSS’s medical staff includes 389 active medical staff, 47 residents, and 282 ad...vanced practice providers. Physicians on the medical staff are global leaders and leading researchers in their respective specialties, publishing hundreds of articles and holding leadership positions across many major national musculoskeletal societies. Drawing from HSS’s leading residency and fellowship programs, along with the recruitment of other nationally recognized talent, HSS’s physicians consistently rank among the top doctors in the world. Members of HSS’s medical staff treat professional athletes from around the world and care for over 28 professional and collegiate teams and organizations as official physicians. Furthermore, hundreds of professional athletes from other teams choose to see HSS physicians for their care.
