WittKieffer is pleased to collaborate with VCU Health System (VCUHS), on their search for a dynamic and distinguished nurse executive to serve as the Chief Nursing Officer of VCU Medical Center (VCUMC).
Based in Richmond, VA, VCU Medical Center is an 865-bed regional referral center for the state and has the region’s only Level I trauma centers for adults and children. As the only academic medical center in the region, Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center is on the forefront of healthcare, providing patients with the most progressive treatments and medical technology available. MCV Hospitals is the teaching hospital component of VCU Medical Center, which also includes outpatient clinics, and MCV Physicians, an 800-physician faculty group practice.
The CNO will be an integral member of the executive leadership team for VCU Medical Center, reporting directly to the new President, VCU Medical Center, Michael Roussos, and work collaboratively across the system with the other CNOs, sharing best practices. This individual will be responsible for providing overall strategic and operational leadership for all aspects related to direct patient care activities including but not limited to the following: safety, service, clinical excellence, nursing practice, and nursing education and development of the VCU Medical Center. The CNO will work in partnership with affiliate hospitals to ensure that excellence in clinical care, education, research and community outreach is promoted and achieved across the health system, and that the nursing practice remains within the boundaries of the governing regulations in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The CNO will also ensure the practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards, as well as VCU Health System policies and procedures.
The Chief Nursing Officer will have overall responsibility for ensuring that patient care services related to nursing delivered at the Medical Center are focused on enhancing patient experience. This executive finds a balance in managing the day-to-day operations while leading strategic development initiatives required for the hospital’s long-term success by creating an environment of collaboration and engaged providers. Additionally, this individual will effectively manage the financial forecast for nursing at the Medical Center while being a responsible steward of resources in alignment with the VCU Health System financial goals.
This executive partners and collaborates with the Vice President of Ambulatory Services, the Vice President of Perioperative Surgical Services, and other Medical Center and VCU Health System leaders in the strategic development and operational execution of clinical services excellence and human capital strategy, to safeguard the position of VCU Medical Center and VCUHS as a leading regional provider of clinical services. The CNO will effectively interface with VCU partners as needed to ensure safe, timely, and efficient care of patients across the care continuum. In addition, this individual fosters a collaborative relationship with VCU School of Nursing to support the growth of VCUHS nursing services.
