UMass Memorial Health (UMMH) is the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the largest health care system in Central and Western Massachusetts. The hub of the clinical system is the UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMC), a major academic health center located on three campuses totaling 802 licensed beds, 130,000 annual ED visits, and more than 1.2M outpatient visits. UMMH delivers care through two member hospitals, and an extensive ambulatory system as well as eight other community hospitals in the region.
The Vice President, Benefits and Wellness (VP) will report to the SVP/Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of UMass Memorial Health. The VP will serve on the CHRO’s core leadership team. The VP is responsible for creating a positive and cohesive team culture and leading efforts to improve HR operations and service orientation across the enterprise, including all hospitals and UMass Memorial Medical Group. The VP will lead HR operations across the system including the benefits and wellness functions. He/She will partner with the CHRO to develop strategic HR practices and policies to assist with the advancement of the health system’s strategic plan. Furthermore, the VP will ensure the benefits and wellness functions are current, progressive, customer oriented, and establishes the UMMH as a preferred employer throughout the region.
The chosen VP will possess a minimum of 10 years of progressive senior leadership experience in human resources within a large academic medical center, multi-hospital health system; candidates will also be considered who possess experience in higher education, medical technology, bio technology, or pharmaceuticals as long as it is a complex benefits environment. The selected candidate will have a demonstrated track record of success in human resource management in a unionized environment and proven experience with developing and executing a strong benefit and wellness strategy within a multi-union environment. In addition, the successful VP will have experience implementing sustained operational improvements and building/leading an effective, cohesive human resource team. A Master’s Degree in Human Resources or related field is required.
