Tier II Shared Services Center Benefits Specialist

The Tier II Benefits Specialist serves as the point of contact for the Shared Service Center (SSC) within their area or specialty or assignment. The Benefits Specialist is responsible for receiving, routing, resolving, and properly closing all Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) HR inquiries within their specialty or assignment in an accurate and timely manner. The Benefits Specialist partners with their Managers to regularly review performance outcomes against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); identify areas of individual and team professional development.  The role interacts cross functionally with SSC, Centers of Expertise (COEs) and HR Business Partners (HRBPs), Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and various departments within BSWH to ensure handoffs, communication and interactions are customer focused, seamless and delivered with high quality.

The Tier II Benefits Specialist job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assists employees with enrollment questions (i.e. new hires, transfers, promotions, annual/mid-year enrollment) navigation through the self-service portal, navigation to supporting benefit documents and with back end error resolution. 
• Communicates to those with incomplete enrollment to ensure they have an opportunity to elect the necessary coverage.
• Oversees the BAS activity process (i.e. new hire, transfer, job change, FTE change, life events) including but not limited to add/delete manual activity, adjustment of event trigger, error resolution, identification/resolution of error trends and reporting on activity.
• Manages the employee billing statement process (i.e. unpaid leave of absences) including collection of monies and coordination of benefits with applicable vendors.
• Oversees the benefits termination process ensuring coverage is ended or extended based on the reason for termination, COBRA is offered in a timely fashion and the retirement process is activated.
• Manages the tuition reimbursement process (i.e. validating requests are from accredited institutions, approval/denial of submitted expenses, reimbursement and any notifications).
• Participates in system testing and identification of system and user-interface issues; provides feedback to SSC leadership and HRIS.
• Partners with SSC Managers to regularly review performance outcomes against SLAs and KPIs; identify trends requiring COE policy and procedure review and/or consideration.
• Constantly seeks additional opportunities to improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of individual and team work.

The ideal candidate for the Tier II Benefit Specialist role will have excellent interpersonal, listening, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to build strong cross functional relationships and interact effectively with all levels of staff and management. Preferred PeopleSoft and Microsoft Excel experience.
