Overview The Communications Specialist is a skilled and strategic storyteller with a journalists curiosity, an entrepreneurial spirit, strong writing and critical thinking skills, and a passion for people including our patients and employees. Working as part of a dynamic and driven communications team, the specialist will help produce daily content for and maintain high-profile social media channels serving one of Minnesotas largest healthcare systems, including an academic medical center and a nationally recognized childrens hospital. The specialist is skilled at building relationships and networks across various departments and enjoys working collaboratively to shape the stories our organization tells. The specialist sees opportunity in ambiguity or complexity and seeks answers and outcomes with speed and thoughtfulness. The specialist loves learning and writing about diverse healthcare topics, is accustomed to multi-tasking, thrives under tight deadlines, and has an innate ability to convey information clearly to a public audience. This person is equally comfortable developing paid social media campaigns, live-tweeting a press conference, or responding to real-time inquiries from our online community. Responsibilities/Job Description The communications specialist works under the supervision of and in close partnership with the manager, digital communications. The communications specialist is expected to: - Create, curate, and publish daily social media content including multimedia projects while helping update an ongoing social media calendar
- Craft, launch, and monitor paid social media campaigns in partnership with marketing and business stakeholders and communications leaders.
- Listen and engage with our online community across a variety of platforms to provide customer service, while addressing public concerns and reputational issues with internal stakeholders using an established escalation protocol
- Monitor online reviews and respond using an established escalation protocol
- Produce compelling content for external blogs, including public news announcements and patient stories
- Attend and provide coverage for live events and significant organizational milestones
- Measure the impact of social media content via regular reporting and apply KPI learnings to improve our messaging
- Collaborate across departments to develop strategic communications plans using consistent processes, templates and execution tools
- Understand core organizational strategies and business needs, as well as those of owned and partner brands
- Stay up to date on the latest digital and social media best practices, trends, and technology changes
Qualifications Required Education: - Bachelors degree in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field
Experience - 3-5 years experience working in a highly diverse, 10,000+ employee organization with multiple locations.
- Corporate communications and healthcare experience; a proven track record managing a social media presence for a large, matrixed organization.
- Strong interviewing and information gathering skills
- Strong critical thinking and discretionary judgment
- Superb writing and editing skills; familiarity with journalistic writing practices and AP Style.
- Advanced proficiency with social media publishing, listening, and analytics applications.
- Proven community management, customer service, and problem-solving skills
- Experience making data-driven decisions using analytics, A/B testing and project-specific reports and dashboards
- Comfort working with C-suite leadership to advance strategic communications priorities
Preferred Education - Masters degree or advanced educational certifications relevant to communications, public relations, and/or marketing.
Experience - Proven familiarity with website content management systems, digital SEO and content strategy principles.
- Ability to find and tell compelling stories that drive audience awareness and engagement.
- Familiarity with reputation management tools and principles
- Multimedia (Photography and videography) production experience.
- Commitment to compassion, equity, and community/civic engagement
- Experience working in a fast-paced, ad agency-like environment.
Additional Requirements: - Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Internet authoring tools, smartphone publishing tools.
- This position requires frequent weekend, evening, and in-the-field work. To the extent possible, work schedules will be managed and staggered to allow for equal distribution of workflow.
