Vanderbilt University Medical Center Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for Vice President Adult Perioperative Services.
The Vice President Adult Perioperative Services will work as a partner in the triad leadership model with surgery and anesthesia leaders to create and implement an interprofessional vision and achieve the highest level of performance in the Perioperative arena. This leader will:
Create a patient-focused, high-performing, high-commitment, diverse work team which supports the mission, vision and credo of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC)
Collaborate with members of the VUAH and VUMC leadership teams to deliver exemplary performance on organizational goals of People, Service, Quality, Growth and Finance and Innovation
Be responsible for optimizing current operations, initiating best practices and seeking improvements that lead to inter-departmental efficiencies
Work closely with the clinical chairs and operational leaders throughout VUMC to ensure coordinated patient care and management processes across the continuum of care and service delivery
Accountable for leading and achieving perioperative enterprise goal attainment in People, Service, Quality, Growth and Finance and Innovation. This will be done in collaboration with surgery and anesthesia leadership.
Work in partnership with surgery and anesthesia leaders to develop and implement goals, objectives and performance standards to achieve the best in class performance outcomes. This includes program development, process improvement and coordination/integration of processes with other departments.
In partnership with VUAH CNO, ensure professional nursing standards are met or exceeded. Set the foundations for practice through establishing, reviewing, and revising policies, standard operating procedures, and standards of practice for all aspects of perioperative nursing practice.
Interpret policies and objectives to appropriate audiences. Monitor and measure adherence to established standards. Establish reliable improvement processes that yield positive results.
Participate as a key leader of the VUAH Senior Leadership Team.
Facilitate interprofessional decision making related to quality and care improvement through the existing triad pod structures. Enable decision making closest to the work while maintaining appropriate standardization.
Collaborate on key strategic decisions with Patient Care Centers
Standardize services, processes, resources, and practices where appropriate to improve efficiency and effectiveness
Role model behavior consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the enterprise through leading, coordinating projects, supporting innovation, initiating improvement, and developing new programs
Consistent use of LEAN systems including use of data, visual management, workforce engagement and change management skills through "The Vanderbilt Way"
Create a patient-focused, high-performing, high-commitment, diverse work team which supports the mission, vision and credo of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Underpinning this work will be progressing a culture of safety and accountability.
Develop and sustain an environment that encourages and supports self-development and learning for all staff through regular feedback including performance reviews and professional development plans
Organize and participate in the Perioperative Executive Committee and lead or participate in other committees as appropriate
Proactively assess external healthcare trends, demands, and innovations and create programs to improve market position
Communicate within and across departments to maximize effectiveness, efficiency and information sharing
Identify, establish and evaluate quality assurance standards, programs, and procedures within department
Maintain readiness for internal and external survey/inspections by assuring that all faculty and staff are knowledgeable of regulatory standards applicable to their work and ensuring that standards are met within the Perioperative Enterprise to assure Clinical Enterprise accreditation/licensure.
Ensure VUMC policies and procedures are followed according to standards
Represent VUMC regionally and nationally in appropriate perioperative organizations
Consistently promote and advance the profession of nursing, Vanderbilt professional nursing practice and Vanderbilt nurses locally, regionally and nationally.
Ensure accomplishment of work to achieve the Nursing strategic plan and maintain Magnet status

BSN or MSN required
Master's degree in nursing or other discipline
Magnet recognized professional certification (within 6 months of hiring if do not currently possess)
10 years of progressive and senior leadership experience in Perioperative Services
Demonstrated examples of team leadership, collaboration and partnership working with department chairs and other senior operational leadership within and across organizational lines, fostering multidisciplinary relationships and program development
Demonstrated commitment to enhancing workplace culture, embracing and fostering diversity, equity and inclusion, and a commitment to creating the ideal work environment for faculty and staff
Experience in clinical management planning related to perioperative systems, including clinical operational work plans, process improvement, and new program development
Deep understanding of quality and patient safety in healthcare environments and highly skilled in coordinating processes for monitoring, measuring, and assessing patient care and supporting systems to achieve high quality, safe, cost effective healthcare services
Demonstrated knowledge and use of process improvement techniques, as well as change leadership and management techniques to drive overall process improvement initiatives and operating performance
Demonstrated success with performance/operations metrics planning and processes resulting in meeting and/or exceeding goals
Evidence of the capability to consistently make good decisions utilizing a combination of the ability to understand, analyze and synthesize complex data, along with wisdom, experience, and sound judgment
Current knowledge of Joint Commission, state, and federal guidelines, regulations and standards.
Excellent organizational skills in setting and balancing multiple priorities with demonstrated outcomes
