The State Government Relations Manager works alongside the Senior Director of Government and Community Relations in advising senior leadership of Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) on matters related to city, county and state government relations. S/he assists in maintaining effective communications with local officials, community groups and state organizations focused on research and health care. S/he is responsible for executing political engagement strategies regarding state officials to benefit the mission and objectives of VUMC. Excellent writing and marketing skills are helpful in this role.

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience required
4+ years' experience in a government relations or policy focused role strongly preferred
Strong network with city, regional, and state government leadership
Knowledge of direct lobbying with associations and consultants
Ability to influence policy decisions by using social media and presentations of data.

Experience creating social media campaigns and writing materials for distribution to policymakers.
Experience in a position in a client driven environment with diverse responsibilities.
Exceptional ability to multi-task numerous priorities, while interacting with stakeholders with a strong positive attitude and disposition.
Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to communicate concisely as required, while maintaining professional communication and relationships with all stakeholders. Highly responsive to communications from stakeholders, and ability to translate that communication into the required action in response.

Establish a positive, credible and influential presence for VUMC before elected officials and government decision makers with a focus on local government relations.
Represent and advance VUMC's government relations agenda before elected officials and government decision makers.
Build and maintain relationships with elected officials and government decision makers on behalf of VUMC.
Build and maintain relationships with community groups and represent VUMC at community events.
As needed, work cross-functionally and coordinate activities with VUMC departments such as Human Resources, Strategic Marketing, Federal Relations, and the Office of Engagement.
Develop social media presence for the Office of State Government and Community Affairs.
Prepare written materials for presentations to internal and external constituencies.
