The paralegal will be a proactive and detail oriented individual with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with departmental personnel to achieve Foundation Health Partners’ (FHP) legal, compliance and risk goals and objectives. The ideal candidate is a team-player with a great attitude and the ability to balance competing priorities. This individual will also utilize critical thinking skills to interpret the information necessary for reviewing and completing correspondence, legal documents and assisting with legal research. The paralegal may also assist with executive summaries and department reports, and may be called on to assist with FHP’s compliance and risk issues. The paralegal may attend FHP meetings, document meeting minutes, and other similar organizational items.

Monday - Friday
Assist the Legal Department with preparing or reviewing documentation, including but not limited to contracts, guardianship petitions, discovery requests and subpoenas. File documents with the court and effectively serve or cause service on all parties. Maintain court calendar for all ongoing cases.
Assist risk analysts with investigations, legal holds and maintaining ongoing case spreadsheets.
Assist with privacy investigations, reports and databases.
Assist outside counsel with discovery documentation and deposition reparation as requested.
Act as liaison with governmental agencies and FHP as it relates to process service and court calendars.
Assists the Legal Department with administrative duties as directed.
Maintains awareness of laws and regulations and under the direction of the attorney, conducts research as needed to identify applicable laws and regulations.
Assists with any additional responsibilities to support the Legal Department with complex cases and legal questions.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of FHP with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.

Experience consistent with an Associate’s degree in business, healthcare or related field required. Paralegal knowledge and background as normally obtained through the completion of a Paralegal Certification from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited school required.
Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of related experience. Substantial knowledge of litigation processes and procedures. Experience in drafting a variety of legal documents under an attorney’s supervision. Familiarity with or willingness and ability to become familiar with Stark law, Federal Anti-Kickback Statute and similar laws and regulations that apply in the healthcare industry. Ability to work effectively in a high volume environment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, with managers and supervisors throughout FHP.
Skilled in maintaining composure and professional demeanor in difficult and stressful situations. Requires a passion for providing excellent customer service, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Contract experience and basic knowledge of HIPAA and privacy issues
Familiarity with the Alaska Court system preferred.
Two (2) years of direct paralegal experience within a hospital system preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
