RWJBarnabas Health, New Jersey’s largest integrated health care delivery system, providing treatment and services to more than three million patients each year is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer.
Saint Barnabas Medical Center is a major teaching affiliate of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, a major clinical campus for the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and affiliated with the St. George's University School of Medicine, Grenada. The medical staff includes more than 1,700 physicians and dentists representing approximately 100 specialties.
Saint Barnabas Medical Center enjoys an excellent reputation for patient care, nursing professionalism, and clinical quality. As such, the new Chief Nursing Officer will be charged with maintaining, nurturing and building upon the organization’s culture of nursing excellence.
The Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer is a critical and high profile leadership position within the organization. As such, s/he serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and is expected to contribute to the Medical Center’s strategy and vision for the delivery of care in alignment with Saint Barnabas’ mission, values and standards of practice and outcomes.
Key areas of responsibility include the following: oversees the planning, organizing and directing the overall operations of Nursing/Patient Care Services; monitors quality indicators/performance improvement activities; champions the journey towards becoming a high reliability organization to include ensuring a just culture; assists in formulating the patient care services budget; assures the competency, development and advancement of all nursing personnel including nursing students; and ensures the compliance with all federal, state, local and regulatory laws, standards, regulations and protocols.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; active, in good standing, New Jersey nursing license or, in the absence of a current New Jersey State license, the candidate must be eligible to attain a New Jersey State license.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and master’s degree in Nursing Leadership or related required; PhD strongly preferred.
Minimum of three to five years’ experience in patient care services management required; prior experience as a CNO in an acute care setting in a Magnet facility strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of nursing practice and systems framework, excellent strategic thinking skills, strong financial and business acumen skills with demonstrated resource management and stewardship skills.
Active in local, regional and national professional organizations.
Knowledge and experience in computer software/applications–e.g., patient acuity, workforce management- staffing/scheduling, finance/budget.
