The staff neurologist willbe appointed5/8th Iowa City VA Health Care System (ICVAHCS) and 3/8thUniversity of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), participating in neurology inpatient consults, neurology clinic, and call. The neurologist will contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with specialty services, and utilize computerized/electronic medical records. The neurologist will provide outpatient care in accordance with professional standards, core values, and commitment to service excellence.
Work Schedule:Clinic hours8:00am to 4:30pm with call on rotation for nights and weekends.
Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible neurologist with at least two years experience in sleep medicine; and at least two yearsof demonstrated experience performing/interpreting EEGs (including intraoperative EEG monitoring) is preferred.ICVAHCSdesires candidates with a strong commitment to clinical care, teaching, and research in an academic setting.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Licensure: Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Physical Requirements: The neurologist must be physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the position. This would include the following: moderate lifting (15-44 pounds); light carrying (under 15 pounds); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking 6 hours; standing 6 hours; sitting 8 hours; use of both eyes; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); and mental and emotional stability.
