The Nephrology attending at the Miami VA Healthcare System is responsible for ensuring high quality of care in Nephrology for our Veterans. The Nephrology attending is a key member of the Nephrology section in Medical Services. His/her duties/responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The Nephrology attending physician Dedicates 90% of time towards direct patient care.
The Nephrology attending physician assesses and analyzes data relevant to the Nephrology Section and places a high priority on enhancing personalized, proactive patient driven care, as well as a culture of compliant business integrity.
The Nephrology attending physician works towards achieving medical service goals in the in/patient and out/patient setting.
The Nephrology attending physician assists the Chief of Nephrology with the clinical practice and works in collaboration with Nurse Practitioners, inpatient and outpatient consults, electronic chart reviews, outpatient clinics, telehealth clinics, trainee education, research, and care and treatment of patients undergoing Hemodialysis. Other duties may be assigned by the Chief of Nephrology as necessary.
The Nephrology attending physician works in compliance with all VHA prevention guidelines, patient safety goals and initiatives; and accreditation requirements.
The Nephrology attending physician practices within the scope of their licenses.
The Nephrology attending physician ensures that all encounters are completed in a timely manner.
The Nephrology attending physician answers consults and ensures they are scheduled as appropriate and in accordance with local policy.
Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
B. Education. MD or DO degree, successful completion of an accredited residency in internal medicine
C. Board Certified/Eligible in his/her specialty. Eligibility or certification in Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or by a comparable foreign certifying board.
D. Licensure and Registration. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
E. English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
F. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must be kept current at all times.
Competence in clinical care of general nephrology and transplant nephrology patients.
Administrative skills and abilities.
Experience in education of students, residents, interns and fellows.
Awareness of and a commitment to interdisciplinary team approaches.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
