The Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for the Mental Health Department is a management position with responsibilities for all aspects of the Department and its underlying Programs. The incumbentwill collaborate with the ACOS of Geriatrics & Extended Care(GEC) and the Associate Chief Nurse/GEC on related programs, e.g. dementia, VA Star.
The incumbent is responsible for the overall performance ofall Programs under the Departments as set forth above.
The incumbent is expected to perform direct clinical care, a minimum of 8 hours/week in order to maintain clinical proficiency as determined by the Chief of Staff.
The incumbent will be a key member of the clinical leadership team and reports directly to the Chief of Staff.
TheACOS is responsible to ensure that high quality patient care is delivered in a resource efficient manner. Responsibilities include the complete range of resource management including position management and budgeting.
The incumbent promotes an effective mix, coordination and support of clinical care by evaluating current and potential patient needs, clinical workload and resources, and special programs/mandates.
He/shepromotes and evaluates standards of clinical competence and conduct for staff which are maintained through compliance with the credentialing and privileging processes, monitoring and evaluation of clinical practice, peer review, and other appropriate quality assurance activities.
The successful candidate should possess experience in high level management.This experience is preferred inInpatient and Outpatient Programs,Substance Abuse Programs and/or Suicide Prevention. He/she should haveexcellent leadership skills and should be knowledgeable and proficient with VA Performance Measures and the principles of System Redesign including implementation and promotion of clinic access and hospital flow.
Completionof residency training and board certification in Psychiatry is preferred.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board and Compensation Panel (for physicians and dentists) in determining the salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
